a paperclip exposè - laurell

When I first met this girl, we were sharing a cabin with a group of 'tweens on the island of Keats. I was just 17, working as a 'First Mate' at a kids summer camp and Laurell was my 'Skipper'. Together we were Keats Camp leaders, summer of 2000.Jump ahead 10+ years, and this week I met Laurell at her super cute downtown Vancouver apartment. I haven't seen her since our camp days, but as soon as she opened the door, it felt like it was just yesterday. We spent the hour catching up and telling stories about where life has taken us over the past decade. Laurell is an amazing musician based out of Vancouver. This past year, I remember walking through a store and all of a sudden, I would hear Laurell on the radio! Her voice is soft, beautiful, yet strong and full of passion. And her life is nothing less. You can check out her song/video here and get her CD on itunes! Even this past Christmas, she had a Christmas song lighting up the radio stations! Love it! When Laurell isn't busy working on her own music, she has been diving deep into songwriting and co-writing for other musicians and artists. Beyond that, she has devoted part of her time to working with children with special needs in the school system, as well as teaching children who are passionate about learning music. Laurell is, in my mind, an amazing role model and inspiration for these children, as her passion for life naturally glows from within her. She is truly a joy and I am so happy to call her a friend. Once we finished our tea, we went for a stroll around her neighbourhood and took a few photos. I hope these images really show the beauty that is Laurell...
