how to prepare for your wedding photography

Since I blogged about how to prepare for an engagement shoot, I thought  it would be fitting to follow up with how to prepare for your wedding photos!Of course, there are a million books and blogs out there to help with preparing for weddings, but here are just a couple from a photographers perspective!

First tip: create a detailed timeline with your photographer, so that both of you are aware of how the day will unfold. I will always work with my couples to ensure there is enough time allotted for the portrait session, and offer my advise on any sections of the day they are unsure of. I have been to my fair share of weddings, and I love to help in any way I can!

Second tip: try to make time for a sunset portrait. Even if it's just 10 minutes! They are almost always my favourite portraits from the day and it can be a welcome little sneak-out from the reception to catch some fresh air and snuggles with your new hubby!

Third tip: always bring a pair of sandals or extra flats in the car. If you are planning to go to any locations where you have to walk… even if it doesn't look that far? Let me tell you, those 4 inch heels will make 20 metres feel like a million miles.

Fourth tip: if you are having your photographer join you as your prepare for the day, try to choose a location that you are excited to have photos taken in. Always make sure there is a nice window, and we all know girls can get a little messy when it comes to getting ready, but if you can save one little area that doesn't get hit by all the bridesmaids, PERFECT! That is where your photographer can create some beautiful images of you in the final stages of getting ready, without the clutter that comes with a wedding.

There are a lot more tips where those came from, but for today let me leave you with this… Do as much research you can before the big day, so that on the day of the wedding, you get to just enjoy the ride!

Happy Planning! xo
